Volvo 850 Engine Cuts Out Please Help!!

I suppose you / your mechanic has checked the air filter/filter housing. If not - do that immediately. If your car can't breathe it will cut out due to an overly rich mixture. Giveaway is a touch of black smoke from the exhaust..

Hello

It sounds like the rpm or speed sensor on the transmision. When it goes out it will make the car do just that. I sale a bunch of them on 850s

I have a 96 that had the same problem when I bought it new. A year later Volvo had a recall on a defective computer part that automatically shut the car off. You may want to see if the same recall applied to yours.

Clean the throttle body with a good throttle body cleaner (solvent)- if this does not remedy your situation it could be your Mass Airflow Sensor.
