Had a slow moment yesterday and locked myself out of my V70R... I pulled the door handles to re-glue those little rubber pieces that always slip down when I pull the door handles. I was going to test the lock cylinder before putting it back together completely, but my brother and dad were around and distracting me working on his car. Naturally, I forgot to test the lock cylinder on the driver door handle after reinstalling, and ended up locking the car last night. Went ahead and tested it just after that, and sure enough, I hadn't lined up the rod properly.
Ended up having to drill out the plastic plug on the tailgate where a lock cylinder belongs (for whatever reason, Volvo didn't install lock cylinders on the 2000 models, or at least some of them after a conversation about this topic on here). So if anyone is looking to steal a P80, this method works pretty well! Now I need to find another plug.

If only I had a key fob for this car... this could have been avoided!

Placed a CYBERMONTH order with FCP through the MVS link, got cam seals etc, so I can pull my cam cover and lube the top-end, since it has been sitting for five years. Also got cam timing tool from IPD this week and will order Cam locking tools from Amazon tonight. Will do N/A cam swap, while it's apart!

This project has waited in line behind kids' cars and medical issues for too long!

Did that one have a lock cylinder? Weird that Volvo only installed the lock cylinders on some of them.

Check Home Depot or Lowe's in the specialty nuts and bolts section. I once locked my keys in the car while getting gas at Costco. They put a cone behind the car till (forgot) either my wife or friend brought the second pair of keys. I am always either taking the keys or rolling down the window if I step out of the car for a moment, whether for gas or checking the tire pressure at Costco's new self help tire inflation station. I even remove the key when I work on the car but most of the time the driver's side window is down just in case... I think the Costco incident seared in my mind about not locking myself out.

I always roll down the window when I get out of the car while it's running, or while I'm working on it. It's easy to accidentally lock yourself out... fortunately this is the first time I've done this!

Today I started removing my o/s driveshaft to replace the perished inner and split outer CV boot. Very successful all told... six hours in and rain has suspended play. So far I've irreparably bent a 5ft breaker bar removing the axle nut, then I've sheared off both nuts holding the control arm bushings to the subframes. This meant I had to cut the bolt heads off the bolts in order to remove the control arms (the balljoint bolt also sheared) and then drill the bolts out from the bushings.

Hey, at least the 12mm driveshaft carrier bolts came loose without issue.

Wire a external hidden switch to the door unlock switch.
