He says they are following the example set by other unsavory people. Too much of which is reported in the media, portrayed in cinema, TV, music...manovlov wrote: 18 Nov 2020, 14:36Sorry, my English is not so good, not sure to understand what you mean...

When we were just married, some 14 yr old kids stole our Scirocco, parked on the street. They weren’t smart enough to hotwire it, they just tore out the ignition and twisted all the wires together so the starter would run...and keep running. They ditched it a few blocks away. Police knew exactly who they were, but no evidence.
We fixed it. A year later, it happened again, but this time they shredded the interior, which totaled it.
My dad was getting elderly, drove his nearly new Camry to the dentist in Denver. Came out, it was gone. Everyone assumed he was getting dementia and had forgotten where he parked. No one believed him. Insurance paid him, and said not to drive anymore. A year later, the police found it ditched in a vacant lot - they had just taken it for joyriding.

Joyriding ... You know they are are a few cards short of a full deck when they commit a felony for a thrill that gains them nothing.
Either that or they really stink at math and got the risk/rewards calculations way off.

I lived in Berkeley when the earth quake hit in 1989. Due to the bridge collapse I had to take BART into SF for work where I left a van so a few of us could carpool. Drove an 87 white Integra to the Berkley BART every morning. After coming home one night couldn't find the car so had to walk home. The car had been de-badged, mirrors painted and the front lip spoiler also colored (white) matched. Had Recaro's in it for awhile but not when it was stolen. The interesting part was they even check the oil level as the dipstick was bent for being in the hurry to put it back in.RickHaleParker wrote: 18 Nov 2020, 20:52

Several days later after returning I felt like just walking the station lot and lo and behold... Broke the ignition, dent on roof, grass and dirt all over undercarriage plus 400 additional miles. Went home and brought back a screw driver, started the car and put it in the backyard till the police came and finger printed the car.
The insurance paid for all the work and I had everything done except the dent on the roof not wanting potentially a different hew or sheen. Didn't know any better but later I decided to pop it with my palm... Wow, not perfect but $900 pocketed.

Back in 1982. A ex-girlfriend wrapped my 1978 Trans Am Firebird around a telephone pole. I got it for $3500 a year before. Settled with the insurance company for $7200. Paid off the loan and other expenses, pocketed $3500. I keep the girl for sometime after. I was my fault also. I distracted her with sweet talk.

Not sure that's a good way to make money but that was quite a bit of money for 1982. Our 83 GTI was around 10K so was my 88 Toyota 4x4 PU V6 ($9,999) with Recaro's. The dealer received 50 burgundy 5 speed trucks with Recaro seats and Recaro lettering across the body. Should have kept both of those.RickHaleParker wrote: 19 Nov 2020, 11:50Back in 1982.
