got me thinking. Is this normal? It shifts before 6k 1-2, and at about 6.4k on the 2-3. The car I meticulously maintained, so the level, type and age of transmission fluid were all ok.

Perhaps pedal not fully depressed, first gear change can't be at 5000 with the pedal to the floor. Otherwise, not sure if the Geartronic is shifting differently, the Aisin 5 speed on base non turbo is shifting 1-2 at almost 7000rpm (look at 0:45). Here's a compilation, some are manual other auto

Just realized I have four V70s with stick shifts and 4 S/V70s with AT in the driveway.

My shifty life is balanced.

Man, these things really scream up at 6000 rpm

Which one, the turbo or the non turbo ? Bought my non turbo at 100k miles, when I was revving to 3000rpm in P, the engine would scram like it wanted to throw the head away. A few years later, I got it to calm down a little. I think the issue was with something clogged inside the steering rack, causing the pump to meet high restriction, forcing the engine. As of now, it's pretty quiet at 3000rpm, even past that and as a bonus it also started making that 'subaru' rumble. I might be wrong but when new, these engines were actually quite civilized when approaching the 6000rpm.
