Renewing/replacing a Mitsubishi td04h-13c turbo in '92 740T

Post by jmscdgn »

Good day,

I'm hopeful for some advice on renewing/replacing the stock Mitsubishi td04h-13c turbo in my '92 740

Finding a refurbished and balanced td04h-13c has so far proved to be a bit of a cul-de-sac, though i continue to search and would welcome any leads from the forum community. Along my searches however, i've stumbled upon a number of refurbished and balanced td04h-15g turbos, and was curious to know how easily this could be installed instead. Would it be simple plug-and-play? If not, i would greatly appreciate some direction in how to go about installing this - or another - alternative/more readily available turbo.

I'm not really chasing performance on this one, just trying to keep it as honest as i can to the original setup, til the time comes to pass it down to the next Volvo enthusiast.

Many thanks,
J

Ebay sells the replacement cartridge for these turbos. Cost is about 188 dollars as i recall. Its the center section with shaft, bearings and vanes part. The 2 sides are just shells so to speak with no moving parts except the waste gate.

Look up the mitsu number and cartridge you should find it and it should be the only part you need. Be sure and clean out the oil and coolant lines properly as they will prob be pretty nasty inside.

My sons 1990 760 has been running on one for over a year and 10k plus miles with no issues.

Good luck to you,

Rob
