I ran across this and what a 1958 American wanted is completely opposite of car buyers of today. If you watch the whole thing there are many laughs! My father's mother had a 58 Roadmaster Limited which I drove a couple of times before she died in 1987. It was the smoothest driving and quietest car i ever drove. Hers had factory air and it still worked when my cousin inherited it. After watching this video I now know why she was so convinced it was the safest car... June

If I’m hearing this right this was a dealer pitch video , that is an ad piece to train dealer sales on the differentiators between Olds and the others.

And there was an Edsel in one of the clips too...the brake fade clips were cool, well, hot I guess.

That really was your Grandmothers Oldsmobile, June. ❤️

Merry Christmas!

   Buick actually     My family on both sides were Buick people. Buick was thought to be a symbol of success without vulgarity and since they built to last a economic choice. I gather it was a Jewish thing. Volvo has now became Buick's replacement in the last twenty years. Just look in any temple parking lot  I love the fins on the Chrysler products shown. June

Growing up, we had some rural neighbors who were not as well off as others. I believe they still had outdoor plumbing. But, every few years they got a new Buick. They had their priorities.

Buick was the default Jewish car

Chevy and Caddy were too Italian

Ford was a notorious Anti-Semite

Wow, I had no idea all these things. So sheltered.

But Louis Chevrolet seemed to be a decent guy! Involved in bike racing and early auto racing - even raced an early Buick.

My only Buick story is a neighbor friend of my parents. He did high tech welding for the Rocky Flats plant outside Denver. He was a BUICK GUY.

Bought a new one every two years - always a V8, usually blue. But riding with him would drive you crazy! Full throttle - foot off the pedal ...full throttle - foot off the pedal. All the way down the road.

I used to say the way to drive in Houston, TX in the 80's was foot on the floor - either the go or stop pedal as needed.
