I really hope I don't have to try that heat shrink idea I mentioned a few posts up. It seems like the right kind of plastic, though.
Multiple reports of being able to order, then getting an email that one of your parts is NLA, but the rest can be shipped.

This practice has diminished since I started visiting vendors who do this and cut off a finger of the owner

It’s a really annoying way to get you to cart up and buy.

I’m not 100% convinced it’s malicious or opportunistic. They may be running their inventory control system on Solarwinds software.

Get V70 ones from a scrapyard or breaker. The coating doesn't peel (it was changed to combat the peeling observed during the 850s lifetime), they fit perfectly, and they have a channel in them to guide water up and over the roofline - keeping your side windows clearer.

I’ll have a look, although any piece of plastic that’s been out in the sun for 20+ years is going to be fairly weatherbeaten.

I wrote this up in June 2019, on the What Did You Do To Your Volvo Today thread.

I found replacement moldings in the Genuine Classic Parts (Sweden) catalog, the price wasn't awful but one side (left/driver's) was available in limited quantities, "contact us". So I did -- they had one (1) left. So I ordered the pair, and a few days later received an e-mail back -- the pieces (which are indeed long and an strange size to put in a box) -- are too big to ship (I'm presuming that they meant "at any reasonable price".)

So for Plan D, I scraped as much of the old coating from the trim pieces as possible and used Trimbrite T9005 Blackout Tape (PepBoys, $6.99). I ended up doing each side twice. It seems to take doing it a couple of times to get it, more-or-less looking okay. I also learned that it is easiest to cut the tape to size with scissors first, instead of trying to trim it when applying.

It looks okay. (Or at least better then it did when I started.)
There are some photos at the link.

It's been a year and a half now, the car has even been through a carwash, and it still looks better than it did when I started.

Alright, Abscate bumped my old thread and got me to take the bait. I threw them in the cart and paid. Of course this order is probably going nowhere, but for some dumb reason hope springs eternal.

The wild card here is that they may actually have the parts but the shipping is $500, in which case I would have to will call them and drive down to Chicago to pick them up. It would be really funny if they've had the same parts in stock for years and everybody says no when they find out the shipping cost.

Just catching up on this thread but these have been NLA forever. Posting that rant was a favorite of JRL.

Anyone remember JRL? That's how long ago.

I'll be stunned if they actually have them.

So, is this some kind of hazing ritual? Is that why Abscate bumped my thread?

On a side note, what happened to JRL? Has he just moved on from the P80 group or just moved on? I miss his viewpoints on many subjects.
