Radiator Removal For 2001 XC70 - Plastive Shield & Oil Hoses

I think you are over-thinking this thing...just connect everything up and run it...the engine oil will flow on its own...after a few minutes, stop the car and check the oil level- top off as necessary. In regards to the coolant, I would just add as much as would go in, then start the car and keep filling the reservoir until it's full...then let the car heat up, squeezing the upper radiator hose and allowing the system to burp...the level in the overflow tank will sink when the thermostat opens...add more then...keep adding until it's full...Then stop the car, go to bed- check it the next morning...add more as necessary. Sometimes it takes over-night and a little into the next day to have the coolant level correct! If you have to go to work the next morning, carry some 50/50 with you...pull over on the way to work and check it- add more if necessary. Your low coolant level lamp on the dash will light up anyway if the sensor in the overflow tank isn't covered. These cars are fairly easy to replace the radiator in...I've done it a few times myself and never had an issue or even thought there was truly a procedure to all of this.

I realize this is an old thread but for such a seemingly mundane job like changing a radiator in my 01 xc70, it's really kicking my a$$, and I used to be a professional mechanic.
All bolts are loose and hoses disconnected but that drivers side A/C line on the bottom is really in the way of letting the radiator drop out. This is more a frustration post than anything else but I will accept any tips or tricks.
Gonna start to pull the radiator from the donor car and see if I have better luck.

Thank you for that.
My wife had a slight altercation with the side of the garage outside wall and tweaked the bumper cover, it may be difficult for me to remove it (or put it back the way it was) so I have to leave that as an option right now but thanks for the option.
I'm at the same point with the donor car now.
