oh I forgot the 240 is a sedan and the 740 is a wagon. Thanks

The 740 was an update to the 240. I think the 700s are built off of the 200 series. They're similar engines. I don't see why they would make a different mounting set up. Advice: measure everything needed in the engine bay to determine if it is the same.
If you think about it, Volvo has made a lot of vehicles interchangeable. 850 and 70 series engine can be swapped from one sedan and/or wagon. I think the early 90s 960 straight-6 can swap into the late 90s 960 and 90 series sedan and wagon. Someone correct me if I'm wrong on that.
If my p80 parts customer wanted to remove his S70's (sedan) solid rear axle and install my v70's (wagon) AWD rear axle, he could because the s70 was prepped same way AND some s70s were equipped with AWD.

The 240 most likely has a block mounted distributor and the 740 most likely has a head mounted distributor. The auxiliary shaft may need to be swapped over. It would be a lot simpler if they both happen to have block mounted distributors.
