If the pads and rotors are new; Yanking on a properly adjusted parking brake will lock both rears up fast on my 96 sedan and the 95 855T.
If they become glazed it goes exactly as you said. Of course, they should only be applied when stopped to avoid glazing but fun is fun so when moving I am sure to yank them fast resembling nothing close to progressive application.
It appeared that some shop had lifted the wagon with the lift pad placed under the left rear plastic parking brake body mount. This was where they broke the sleeve on the cable. sigh. The bolt to mount the plastic was bent up and quite a pita to remove. Got that metal straightened out and back down when I reassembled.
I will check under it before I leave Firestone every time they are done w alignment or rotate/balance, now.
Lifetime alignment is fair for 165.00 but keep your eye on the bottom of it.

What cable mods do you have to do on the Febi parking brake cables?

Work in progress. Upthread, some reported they got a poor fit on the Febi into the brake plate hole. No seal there is bad as it will let water in and seize the new cable.

From what I can tell, you'd think it was engineered to be water tight, but it isn't. It's really weird. The spot between the plastic bayonet and the rest of the cable has no attempts to make it water tight, yet the bayonete to e-brake actuator at the wheel has an o-ring. My guess is this is to avoid dust, not water. Weird stuff.

I'm about to redo the parking brake on my 97 850 and just went with the Genuine ones. Pricey but I saw multiple reviews of the Febi ones being a pain and not exact fit. I don't really want to do this job twice.

Using GAAAR(genrally accepted Abscate accounting rules)
4 hour job at $25 means $100 or exactly the delta of the parts. With pain and suffering added, OEM makes sense, unless I can document the mods on the FEBI cleanly here

I documented my encounter with a set of aftermarket FWD parking brake cables. Bought from our friends at FCP they were the only options listed then other than Volvo OE. They were rubbish and were not even the correct dimensions. They were too short between the back plate at the wheel and the mounting point forward of the rear wheel. This prevented the tie-back to the trailing arm being riveted back out the way and it was so tight I could not actually fit the rear wheel as it was tight up against the tire. I believe they may have been the famous Pro-parts Sweden brand and not Febi.
I ended up buying OE as I hate do-overs. FCP refunded the parts and I did not have to return as shipping was more than the parts which were scrap anyway.
So my warning is, IF, you buy aftermarket, make sure you very carefully compare to the original in all aspects in terms of mounting positions and lengths of cable between points before fitting.
Final recommendation is to clean the inside of the rear rotor/drum for the parking brakes. I use a wire brush on a drill as it leaves a nice cross hatch roughened surface which helps the parking brake shoes bind better. You could also use rough emery paper.
Good luck!
Neil.

The FEbi cable sold in 2021 (FCP) matches the OEM cable with an 18 mm snout and 21 mm base
I had heavy corrosion in the brake plate hole and had to grind it out with a Dremel and stone. This leaves the oring compression fit loose so I’ll secure it with RTV AND ZIPTIES
