Tried out the repaired FP (103) relay in my T5 this morning. Car fired right up and idled fine for a couple minutes. Pulled it it out and stuck it on the shelf for a spare. Picked up enough capacitors to do 10 relays for under $5 from Digikey. One of the SM resistors had gotten knocked loose when trying to remove the old caps, but that was easy enough to fix. Also reflowed a couple of the larger soldered connections on the coil, etc.
Going to check my stash to see if I have any others lying about to make more spares.

My yellow '77 242 probably got the most attention, but the '80 264 got it's fair share. Pic from when I sold it a little over a year ago.

Now I'm finally getting time to work on my '78...which is going to be a fun project.

I would love a Passat W8 manual wagon, but from what I've read, they're one of the most unreliable engines ever made. Super cool and unique cars though. They didn't make many of them.

Watched Liverpool drop its first game at Anfield in 4 years ? They played well but lost on a questionable PK

Luckily , I used the two hours to finish the passenger seat reskin on Evita the 1999 S70

2 hours from seat out to seat back in , nice!!

Note difference on C70 and S70 seat bolsters, both seat bottom and seat back are different. You can swap the seat bottom foam but you can’t swap the seat back foam due to different SIPS

Looking good!

Replaced a hose clamp on the turbo coolant return hose earlier. I noticed while trying to figure out this awful whining noise (yeah, that's still happening) where a little bit of coolant was going. I had just topped off the expansion tank after noticing that the level was just below minimum.
Don't use those cheap auto store/harbor freight Chinese hose clamps on anything crucial or hard to reach! They are awful... strip out and skip very easily and loosen up over time. I replaced it with an ABA brand clamp. Just opened up the old one, slipped it off, opened up the new one, and clamped it down nice and tight. No coolant loss and the clamp wasn't misshapen!
Maybe that's been seeping for a while and that's why my coolant level slowly goes down.

But they are so shiny, you get 10 for a dollar, less 20%m and a free flashlight your better half can use to try re- tighten the clamp on I95 one night....

Can't go wrong with Oetiker clamps! They're the best.

They got rid of the free flashlights after the 31st :( .
Maybe once covid is over the free coupons will return!

Abscate, would you be willing and able to see if normal 850/S/V70 seat skins fit over the C70 bases, with their better bolstering? As I understand from previous posts of yours they'll fit from a mechanical point standpoint, but are they way off aesthetically?

I just finished the reskin, and as much as I love you, its a tall ask to deskin it again

:D

Im going to say there is no way they will fit the taller bolster on the C70 seat - Ill try stretch it over the seat to show this though?

Look at the difference on the seat bottoms here...

Yeah, I doubt the S/V70 skin would fit the C70 cushions. You might just barely be able to get by with the bottom, but the back would have to be stretched quite a bit.
