OEM tie rod ends

Post by Blacklab467 »

I remember a recent topic about what manufacturer was OEM for various front end parts. I just received my inner and outer tie rod ends. The inners have no brand markings only a couple numbers etched in, the outers are painted black and have TRW stamped on the ball joint and TRW on the Cast arm. Both parts in Volvo packaging and made in France. I always thought Lemforder was the OEM supplier for these parts. Hope this helps.

Both companies owned by ZF is my understanding. Either way both companies make quality parts.

I wonder if one can still buy TRW parts locally at auto parts stores? I remember back in the 80's when I was an ACDelco parts man, TRW made chassis parts for almost every application, as MOOG does now. Perhaps these are available at parts vendors like Napa or Pep Boys for much cheaper?

So these P2 know factory racks are likely TRW, like most of the P80 ones.

In my experience parts are not very cheap at NAPA, FWIW.

Not sure if the shipping is costly for you in Canada but FCP sells these TRW parts for pretty cheap, right now the right one is $41 and the left is $57. https://www.fcpeuro.com/Volvo-parts/XC7 ... d=586&v=97. And they are same or cheaper at Amazon (sigh).

That’s definitely a great price, I’ve been getting my stuff from Volvo of Toronto, online store. We get hosed pretty bad on customs duty and excise tax whatever that is when we get parts from USA.
Interesting that the Volvo genuine parts that I got are black painted TRW, where the FCP genuine Volvo are unpainted, at least in their photo of the tie rod ends. In any event, they’re not made in China!

Car makers keep changing their parts companies, spring seats was Sachs in the past, now it's Rein/CRP. And these companies keep merging/buying each other. Lemforder quality is taking a hit lately for some of their parts. Nothing is really constant these days

All walk-in stores are going to be overall much more costly than the online sources for quality Volvo parts. Occasionally you find a bargain there but it's rare. Good Euro car parts are too low volume for their business model of selling crap parts to the masses knowing that when it fails the customer will either just buy the same part again or throw away the car.

No cynicism here, move along!
