Hopefully he has a full recovery.

I was thinking something very similar.

If he recovers and is able to drive again Tigers next car will likely be a Volvo.

This was a brand new car provided by the golf event he was hosting. That company brags about all the safety built in to their new design, and maybe the result is him surviving this accident, so good on them.

BUT....severe ankle and lower leg injuries strongly imply the passenger cell was collapsing where the wheel / subframe / motor cradle was intruding into the cabin. That's one of the things you see in those partial overlap frontal crash tests, where the big pieces should shear off and go around or under the passenger compartment, not into the footwell.

Today's huge SUVs have a lot of mass to manage in a crash. This model goes up to 4,806 lb, which isn't as bad as GMC/MB/BMW bigs, but it's a consideration when it's all coming down on 22 square feet of the front at high speed.
