My solution was to use marine style terminals and generic battery cables. Easy, cheap, and works great.

I used that Ramac cable on my '98 a few years ago, never any issues as long as I had it. It does feel like a pretty cheap cable though compared to the factory one.

You can fab a really nice fitting plastic cover for that positive terminal from a polyprop orange juice container , which will stop errant shorts to ground from B+

I did that on my P2. I was always worried one of the kids would throw an umbrella in there and short to ground. A bit paranoid.

Cut about the bottom 4 inches off, the trim two adjacent sides so that it rests on the battery on two, amd slides down the side on the other two. Open holes to run the cables amd secure it in place!

I would take the tight bend off that crimp and run the cable inside heater hose, along the manifold , the down to the starter. Lots of chafe relief. You will still be $80 ahead of me

Yeah, I'm not crazy about the bend, but I may change the terminal eventually. A cover would be a good idea.

I still need to replace the starter to alternator cable, I think that may be causing the pulsing lights when I first start the car (and occasionally while it's idling while driving).

You’ve got a West Marine on Tryon Street where you can make up to length cable and lugs with their crimping tool. You’ll pay a premium for Ancor fittings but they are premium stuff and worth it,

Did you actually receive the "Volvo" cable 9456836 yet? For years and years it was exactly the same part whether you bought it aftermarket or Volvo. This is well documented in the forum. Because the pos cable is integrated into the engine harness, there is no factory replacement as an individual cable. Volvo sells the same crap aftermarket one. Curious to know what you received.

Trying , unsuccessfully so far, to find a terminal that clamps and the bends 90 degrees down to clear the Volvo battery...still searching
