Replacing AWD fuel pump.

Post by Jamvo »

Replacing my v70 awd 1998 pump via a cut access panel, I am trying to figure out what the three lines are next to the pump (3 lines 2 are green). Not sure how to upload picture.

Go to full editor , then use the Attachments tab. File handling is best approach , drag and drop is just Matt Messing with us

On an AWD one line runs to the front of the car, the other two supply and receive from the transfer pump on the LHS of the tank

The RHS fuel pump sends fuel back to the filter then forward to the fuel rail. The evap line is the black line that runs up to the purge valve.

The green lines are fuel supply and regulator return

Thank you, you've been so helpful many times now for me.. any idea which is to and which is return? I guess either way looks like trying to replace either of the green lines might be above what i can do.. I'm guessing these lines require dropping the rear as well as aren't cheap or easy to come by for these p80s...

I am getting old as I can't orientate the picture to what I expect to see. On a 98 AWD does it have a different tank to later (99-00) AWD's with the fuel pump on the top of the tank? It looks really weird.

I've attached below a 00 year V70R AWD fuel tank dropped from the car. The emissions stuff is a little different but the fuel pipes should be similar.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Neil, fuel system stuff is really above my knowledge, but I think I see one of the lines thats in mine. Ill have to dig into it more about replacing these.. both of mine are looking bad. Id really like to fix this issue (i've got a lot into it at this point) but also Im starting to ask myself when do I stop throwing money at it... Looks like those lines aren't going to be easy to replace and who knows what else could go wrong. not really in a position to drop the tank easily but perhaps I could do with just lowering it some.

Thanks for the help, those pictures put in perspective what im really dealing with..

In the picture, The right line runs over the front of the tank to the other side of the 'saddle tank' to the ejector 'pump'. Not really a pump but more of a pressure balancer that helps transfer fuel to the pump side. Black thing in the center is the fuel pump wires and middle green pipe is the return feed from the engine if I recall. Left pipe is the fuel pipe to the fuel filter. Missing is the fuel pipe to the engine which is removed further up on the tank with the silver pressure regulator.

Be aware many fuel pipe for AWD are now NLA so some creative manufacture may be required and also much cheaper then OE if you can find them.

If you can see exactly where the break is, Dorman/Help line has a hard-line repair kit with barbed "unions", I used them to fix squirrel damage to the pressure line under my T5.

Heat shrink covered the gap, Oetiker clamps for belt-and-suspender comfort.
Then I used the 20 ga. pump to fix the other part of the problem.

That’s a bit of overkill, isn’t it? Was there anything left to clean up?
