1998 S70 GLT avauilable near Cleveland

Post by Eddystone »

If you are interested and maybe in the Toledo, Buffalo, Columbus or Pittsburgh areas, you might be interested in a 1998 V70 that I recently looked at and test drove. Drives fine, straight, true, brakes work, good tires. Needs a few things. Driver seat not in good shape. Odometer does not display total mileage for some reason, Has EGR code with check engine light. Also some stored codes for misfires, but runs and idles fine. Has trip computer and better AC controls. Car is white. Body panels straight. No dents. Decent paint. Needs polishing. Only front bumper has some chips from stones et cetera. Looks great in photos. Very decent in person.

Driver's door has something clunky about the door stop and "holder-opener" but works. Left front turn signal assembly loose as if it had been removed and tabs broken. Left front hood release pin not working correctly - someone needs to lift hood while another pulls release lever. Wonder if there was left front damage at some point. No evidence of that in the engine compartment. Suspect that the driver's door may have been opened beyond it's limits at some point. Just a guess.

Gas cartridge holding up trunk lid completely shot.

I smelled a whiff of antifreeze, so the heater core may weeping a bit.

Car is pretty nice and just seems to need normal maintenance done. Control arms and rest of suspension seem fine. Brakes fine. As I said, I drove it for about 30 minutes under various conditions and it worked just as it should. Accelerated at about 5000 rpm with no complaints from car.

I am sorely tempted to buy this myself, but I am trying to resist since I already have three Volvos and two retired drivers. My old 940 is a dog but has been delivering yeoman's service hauling stuff 450 miles each way between old and new house. It's like a faithful dog that I could never euthanise.

Price for the white 98 s70 GLT in $1,000-1500 range which seems to be a pretty good deal. Car only recently came to Cleveland, OH area from someplace where they don't use a lot of salt. No rust evident.

If you have a serious interest in this, I can post photos or put you in touch with the seller. He's a nice guy. He inherited this from an uncle, likes the car, but works 60 hrs a week and does not want to invest what it would cost to have all the work done.

I dont think P80s ever had EGR but they had SAS and the two look "alike"

Valves and exhaust connections and all that.

I have complete SAS systems from cars I stripped off.

Okay, not EGR.

I'm talking about the system that pulls in gasoline fumes from the gas tank through the charcoal canister, solenoid, et cetera. EVAP evaporative emissions recovery system.
