navigation screen day/night setting

Recently purchased 2015 XC70 navigation screen is bright white, even at night. Occasionally switches to night mode at night, but switches back to daylight mode after a minute or so. I can't find any instructions in Volvo documents for adjusting day/night sensitivity.

Have you tried fiddling with the dashboard brightness control, in the panel to the left of steering wheel?

The brightness control dims the LEDs within the dashboard switches okay, but has no effect on the navigation screen, which is almost always bright white. Somewhere there must be a day / night setting that adjusts the screen to a black background in response to reduced ambient light or at a given time in the evening, like my almost 20-year old Nokia GPS used to do.
