Ok, it's not mega yet, but these cars are growing on me. I'm getting obsessed. I see them everywhere, but they're not really there.
Lose the too-wide wheels and side mirrors, and this is possibly the best looking Volvo ever. I don't even mind the current JDM fad intercooler/hoses mounted externally. Did I just say that out loud?
The ride height is perfect for a show car/weekend car. Click on the photo to get the full Monty and drink it in.

Do it!
I always thought those were a clean crisp shape, with a nice interior. Just needed some low and a bit more wheel. Were they the same driveline as the 740 etc?

Yea, too-high ride height from the factory.
It's futuristic, without being silly. Tons of glass. Nice proportions, and that front valance is just awesome. Understated, pretty.
This was the pinnacle of design before the "bar of soap" fetish hit in the 90s.

The front tire<->wheel well arch is almost comical, when you look hard at it.

I drove 'a 91 for 2 years. Was able to trade a very clean '95 940 wagon for it.
I liked everything about it except for 1 major issue. It was a Chicago car and full of rust.
It was all there with a perfect black interior and an excellent running turbo red block. Stock stereo with EQ also sounded very good.
Despite the rust I just had to own one and I did enjoy it.
It did teach me one important lesson. I'm completely done with rusty cars. I ended up turning that Bertone into a 960. If I could only find a 960-V90 wagon I'd be happy, at least for a while. In my 25 years of driving a Volvo most have been wagons.
I just sold my '91 745 that I'd owned for 10 years to a family friend.
As much as I want a wagon I let it go simply because it was a non turbo. Had it been a turbo I'd have kept it. If anyone has a decent 960-V90 wagon let me know. I'm on the lookout and 960's are drying up.

They're sort of the smart Volvo version of this car, but without the gold chains and big mustache.

You know what they both have in common? Big glass you can see out of, all around. I miss that.
Today's cars' A-pillars are the size of my thigh. I know I could survive a 10-foot drop onto the roof, but there's a trade off in terms of situational awareness. They block around 20% of my forward vision. Ugh.

That's one of the things I love about the 2002, the 3.0 coupe especially, the Bavaria sedan, and my son's E30 coupe - the thin posts and lots of glass!
