Re: Financial Distress Parts Program

Post by alady1791 »

Hello everyone,
im a proud owner of a 2004 Volvo CX90. I love my car and have always taken great care of her. unfortunately a couple of months ago my transmission just stopped working. the car barely accelerates in 1st gear then shifts violently into 3rd and then is stuck! so I did some research and found that there was a class action lawsuit against Volvo in 2010 alleging that the GM transmissions in the volvo CX90 2004-2006 were faulty. volvo lost the case and the people were awarded 3 million. part of the terms of the settlement also included preowned and non certified volvos. the company is required to pay 25% of the cost of a new transmission as well as part of the labor costs. so i tried speaking with my local dealership to have the transmission replaced with a 25% reduction in cost. but they deny any such lawsuit or settlement ever took place. so i called and spoke with volvo several times. they agreed to help with the cost of replacing my transmission. i was very excited until i received an email containing a voucher good for only $200. Replacing my trani is going to cost at the very least $3,500and thats for a rebuilt trani with 80,000 miles on it. a brand ne trani will cost around $9,000. so needless to say im very disappointed! ive been in financial distress since covid hit a year ago. my professional cleaning business (Magic Maids) has suffered Immensely! just recently business has started to pick up again which is wonderful but without transportation without a new or used transmission for my volvo i will be forced to shut down my business for good! So please if anyone can HELP ill be eternally grateful! thankyou for your consideation. i wish everyone the best of luck during these hard times!
Thankyou

GM used the transmission in lots of different cars. As a result there are lots of mechanics that can fix the transmission. Go to the GM dealerships and independent shops and see what king of deal they offer.

It might not be the transmission. When I first got my 2005 XC90 T6. Shifting was bad real bad. It was the low voltages cause by a defective battery not the transmission. Acceleration was real weak. A $50.00 set of remanufactured injectors and new plugs. It now runs like a bat out of hell. Get second and third opinions.

The transmissions are good. Volvo used the same Engine / Transmission combination in the S80 T6 without problems. The Concession here is: The extra 1000 lbs weight of a XC90 and the way a truck is used vs a car is what makes the difference. Trucks are more often used for pulling loads then a car and the loads are heavier. More mass = more work. Basic physics: W = Fgh = mgh.

Hi Amberlee, thanks for joining and posting. This is a tall order for us, since we're more (small) parts and advice than drumming up money for a transmission replacement at a shop.

To be more specific, this parts program is good at determining what's causing the headache, sending part(s) to the headache-haver, and guiding him/her through the fix via this forum.

I'll let this request run and see where it goes. To MVS members: she looks legit. I did some poking around with her IP address and FB profile and I don't see any red flags.

+1 on getting another opinion, maybe find an Independent shop familiar with Volvos. Sophisticated can tools can do some non-invasive diagnostics; these transmissions are controlled electronically, so there could be something wrong that's not quite so final. Please check back and let everybody know how you're making out.

Hard part of a transmission is moving it around...can you share your general location to see if anyone is local?

You can probably source a good used transmission for about $500

I have a BOSCH Fuel Pressor Sensor P/N 0261230110 I'd be willing to part with for just the shipping fee for someone in need. I'm located in Canada and prefer to ship domestically.

Profile to the right of her post says Big Bear Lake, and Google says that's in southern California.

+1 to getting some diagnostics done. Anyone in southern CA that has a DiCE/VIDA setup?

alady1791, with P2 or newer Volvos, it ain't the hardware until the software says it isn't software. There's actually more ways the control systems can screw up , than there are ways the hardware can break.

FCP list the GM 4T65 as the only GM transmission for a 2004 XC90 (T6). That being said a transmission filter, full fluid change and the addition of the TransGo shift kit should be the first order of work done before changing out the transmission. Hope Amberlee Barden aka [email protected] will chime back in?

Hello everyone sorry it took me so long to get back to you guys. so my location is Big Bear lake ca. if its possible to find somebody local that might be able to help, id be ecstatic. id love to be able to buy a used transmission for $500. the auto repair man told me i couldn't get one for less then $1300! Im definitely going to need a second opinion i agree! .because my volvo is out of commission I've been driving my Mitsubishi outlander for work. It has 294,000 miles on it. don't get me wrong she was a good car but now there's a terrible clunking noise when i stop as well as a horrible squealing sound coming from the wheel. so needless to say it doesn't make a great impression on my clients I dont plan on anymore $ into my it though! just really need my beautiful volvo up and running again. i also want to thank everyone who responded to my post, i appreciate the help!
