I miss Windows 7... only computer in my house running it is a painfully slow AMD powered HP desktop. Updated that to 10 when it first came out, and I had to roll it back, because somehow it became even slower.

I have it loaded up with older diagnostic software for some old systems i have to deal with. It's a sony vaio and I'm going to hate when it finally dies. It has a upgraded 500 gig ssd.

I’ve been searching around for a cheap laptop for VIDA (to do software downloads on a couple cars) so I don’t screw up my non-activated installation on my main laptop. I hate having to narrow down specs, then get led to something that was mislabeled on eBay.
Man, I wish I could run VIDA on my iPad. It would be SO much easier!

You don't need a second laptop. Use a second hard drive and swap between the two. This will keep your experimental stuff away from the install you want to keep stable. Check the bottom of your laptop, see if there is a trapdoor that gives easy access to the hard drive.

A friend gave me his 'old' Dell laptop, and I've been trying, without success, to get VIDA up. Managed to extract the files, but can't open them. Used the older Autel on the R today, but it can't do much beyond simple codes. I'm not at Luddite level, but this stuff can be ... irritating.

Duh... why the hell didn't I think of that? That would be the easiest way to do it, that's for sure. Hard drive is easy access on my laptop too.

That would be my first choice, but my computer can't handle it. Every other time I've tried to run a VM it was a disaster lol.

On my old portable workstation I took the DVD drive out and replaced it with Hard Drive Caddy and second hard. Set it up for dual boot.
