370k miles on the clock, but only about 150k miles on the engine. The engine was rebuilt (believed to be in 2005) by the previous owner, with a mind to high performance. The car definitely feels more powerful than a stock Volvo 240; compared to my 1993 240 sedan with an A cam, it accelerates much quicker, with better throttle response.
Engine:
- IPD VX camshaft, advanced 4 degrees
- Head faced 0.003", ported and polished on exhaust and intake, and a three-angle valve job
- Bored 0.024" over (machine work by Bush's Machine shop in Clemmons, NC)
- All new bearings, seals, oil pump, etc. (as of 2005-ish)
- Electric fan
Suspension:
- 25mm IPD front and rear sway bars
- IPD Lowering springs
- IPD adjustable torque rods
- IPD adjustable panhard bar
- IPD Cherry Turbo Strut tower brace
- OE GT Strut-to-firewall braces
- IPD lower chassis brace
- Superpro polyurethane bushings everywhere
Transmission:
- ~150k mile AW70
- Accumulator mod
- B&M filter installed in engine bay
Cosmetic:
Car is metallic blue/green (Volvo code: 412-21). Paint is good but wearing thin on scraper trim and drip rail trim, with some clear coat failing on rear hatch and doors, The roof and hood were repainted by a pro shop (not a Maaco job) 8 years ago. Two small dings mar the exterior: one on the driver's side rear door, one on the passenger side rear quarter panel.
Interior is in very good shape, charcoal grey cloth seats and black carpet. The seat foam is solid. Blue/green plaid accents have been added to the dash and rear seat area. Lloyd custom cut floor mats are included with the car., and OE Volvo floor trays. Interior plastic is in excellent shape, much of it having been replaced or repaired over the years.
Maintenance:
- Car has had regular oil changes with synthetic oils (10w30 Amsoil or Mobil 1) since rebuild
- Front struts were replaced in 2013 with KYB GR2, and rear shocks with KYB Gas-A-Just
- Distributor cap and rotor, spark plugs and ignition wires have less than 5,000 miles on them
- Water pump and timing belt replaced within the last 50k miles
- Tires (UniRoyal Tigerpaw) have less than 500 miles (205/55R16 91T)
- Alternator replaced in 2019
- Crank Position Sensor replaced in 2018
- Exhaust manifold gasket replaced in 2014, and one exhaust stud has Helicoil installed
- Transmission replaced with low-mileage unit in 2013. Estimated 150k miles on the transmission
- Walker stainless steel mufflers are less than 5 years old
- Harmonic balancer pulley replaced in 2019
- Side window scraper rubber is brand new
- Air Conditioning works well and has been converted to R134A
- Stainless steel brake hoses
- Edit to add: heater valve replaced with Dave Samuels' version
Extras:
- Original Volvo, amber side markers
- e-Code (DJ Auto) headlamps
- Blaupunkt San Francisco 320 Digital Media head unit
- Front speakers 5.25” Pioneers, rear speakers 4” Infinity Kappa.
- Remote entry system is installed; two keyfob remotes included.
- Lower cubby was converted into a power center; two 12v power outlets, heat seater switches have been relocated. There is space for three more switches to be installed. A fuse-strip behind the panel can be accessed with removal of the passenger side kick panel.
- OE Volvo small tachometer and voltmeter
