Hi Guys:
I had the healiner on my 87 740 redone by a shop around me . Now the
overhead light does not turn off when I shut the door(s). I have to turn the switch to off position to avoid a discharge in the battery. The connections
in the unit look to be ok. However something must happened when the upholsterer reconnected the unit becaused the nbr. 5 fuse was burned.
I dont know if the light unit is damaged or if he did not connect the wires
that come up on either side just above the rear doors. I'm mentioning this because I saw these wires popping up(disconnected) when I looked at the inside of the car as old healiner, board, side plastic mouldings had been removed.
Is that a way to test the light unit to find out if it's in good condition?
I really wanted to avoid a new trip to the upholsterer and ask him to check the interior connections, when the problem might be the light unit itself...
Unit was in perfect working condition, before job was done.
Tks for any ideas.
interior overhead light
The overhead light has continously 12 volt feeding. The light is turned on when one ore more of the switches at the doors are connected to ground by opening the doors (ground is equal to car fuselage). If it does not help to close the doors, it means that the upholsterer has by misstake got some connection to ground by destroying the insulation or forgotten to connect some wire, so it now has connection to ground somewhere else by misstake. The fact that you can switch of the light proofs that it is no fault with the light itself. The switch in the light is disconnecting the lamp from the "unwanted" ground.
