Today I replaced a rusted out rear muffler bracket. This is an easy repair and I got to it before any additional exhaust damage was done by the freely hanging muffler.
1. I ordered a new bracket Part No. 140399
2. I applied silicone spray rusted muffler bracket stub and removed with pliers. It does take some effort to twist out the old rusty bracket stub. I used a wire brush and rotated stub within the rubber hanger to loosen it. I then used channel locks to squeeze the end of the old stub against the rubber hanger to push it through as the rubber compressed. I was then able to pull it out with pliers.
3. After cleaning the area at the tail pipe and muffler junction, I attached the new bracket between this junction and the old bracket weld. I did not grind off the old bracket weld but used it to securely locate the new bracket.
I'm impressed with how secure the muffler now is. I applied some loctite to the nuts and tightened them up, hopefully they won't loosened and fall off. This little but important project took less than an hour.

Much better option than the factory bracket which was secured on the pipe tip causing stress - my pipe actually just fell off.
