V70 base model rear exhaust cam seal missing?

Post by petrikah »

Hi guys,
I am currently working on my 2000 V70 non-turbo base model.
Is my third one so far, i had a 1998 and a 2002 V70, also non-turbos.

Whenever I changed the timing kit, I also replaced the intake and exhaust cam seals.
On all three cars the rear exhaust cam seals was not fitted from the factory.
The non-turbo has no exhaust cam shaft position sensor, therefore Volvo has placed a plug on the hole where the sensor was usually located (https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/volvo- ... en-1397381).
The no-seal only plug setup is prone for leaking on the non-turbo models.
But since the cylinder head had room to fit a seal (guess same head is used for the turbo and non-turbo models), I always placed a seal in that location, and the hole plug on top.

Now I'm second guessing my previous decisions since I've seen some lubrication holes in the place where I fitted the exhaust cam real seal. I'm not sure if the seal covers the lubrication holes or not. I already did the job on my car so I did not have the inspiration to take any photos.

Anyone dealt with this topic in the past? Should I just remove that seal, or live with it? On the other cars where I added this seal for 10-20k miles so far there was no issue.
