2006 S60R cranks no start after timing belt and wiring work

Post by renegade420 »

To make long story short with most detail......

I just completed rather big job: timing belt and components with blue performance belt, exhaust manifold gaskets, turbo gaskets and seals, and installed a do88 intercooler and a snabb upper piping kit. All is on and installed. I should also add in that I did some wiring repairs as alot of the engine bays harness was stripped and frayed. Now, problem comes in.

First attempt to start: Put key in ignition, plugged my generic code scanner in, turned key forward to ignition just before cranking, and on my cluster, the red warning light illuminated with messages stored. Messages read : 'reduced performance' as well as 'coolant level low'.

Weird thing about coolant level warning is that I just replaced the level sensor on the bottom of the overflow as well as the ect sensor. The trouble code that popped up on my generic scanner was 'p1167 Volvo Generic Code, See Online Help' or something along those lines (which when googled returns many different results). So I skip even attempting to start it for that moment, pulled battery cable and let it sit over night.

Next day, put cable back on and just like before, red warning light with messages. But this is where it got weird. There were now different codes set (camshaft signal and throttle signal codes if i remember correctly).I did the battery thing a cpl times and it was like I kept get revolving codes (sometimes it would be these 2, other times it would be those 2). I tried starting the car anyway and it just cranks. No start. Im stressing after all the money I just dumped in this car. Any help deeply appreciated!!

Also, dont know if related, but with key forward in ignition, I hear a 'humming' type sound near my trans and when I unplug that box thing sitting on top the trans, it stops. Super bad wiring issue??

Sounds like you might have forgotten to plug something back in.

Coolant level sensor? Throttle body? Mass airflow sensor? Camshaft position sensors?

I have looked over those sensors and their wiring. now, i will say though, each of those mentioned sensors have jerry-rigged wiring connectors as the original harness was in terrible shot. I feel i did a relatively good 'jerry-riggin' on the wires though. They all appear attached and secure but for peace of mind imma go over it very 'thoroughly' tomorrow.

None of the engine management codes will have validity until it runs. You will have to sort out if you are missing spark for fuel..

Spark, pull a plug and coil, ground it to motor , look for spark every 2 seconds while cranking.

Fuel..a shot of ether , or starting fluid, into the snorkel after the MAF , will give a quick indicator to the presence of fuel. I use a 3.14 second blast for testing
