Has anyone else received 14 IRS letters in one day?
It is not my intention to have a political debate here, but wondering if anyone even is being audited for 14 years? I have my broker looking into it, and he feels it must be a mistake. He is with the biggest brokerage house here in the states. Its just strange to go to my mailbox and find a pile of IRS letters. Mainly i am curious if I am the only one... Count them! 14, it must be a record!!! June

That’s a classic computer glitch. The IRS has been crippled with lack of funding, then people wonder why they can’t perform. I’ll bet they are duplicates.
I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice but the IRS generally only audits 3 years prior for people who live cleanly.

No duplicates... 2019 back. My financial affairs are managed by the same professionals since the 80s so i know all is correctly filed. I pay taxes each year, no refund for me!

Nope. Never 14. Occasionally one at a time and about 3 total in 20 years. A good CPA, who prepared the returns, will write the letters back telling them they are right or wrong. That gives a lot of peace of mind.
I have read that the IRS is greatly understaffed now. Recently an article quoted a CPA that worked as an IRS auditor in the 1970's. He said in the 80's, after he left the IRS and started preparing taxes, he would warn clients not to cheat on their taxes and they would listen. By the 1990's, his clients would laugh and tell him no one they knew ever got audited.

It’s all LLC and corporations that cheat. You can’t cheat if you are a W2 employee. Well, you can, but they will catch up to you eventually.

I got one IRS letter the other day and it made my heart skip. "Oh no, oh no no." I thought. Audit? Penalty from 2019 filing? No, just a letter from the president talking about stimulus checks.
