So this happened to me - intermittent starting, long cranking in my 2007 S60 2.5T. Shop in Vista, CA read the codes and called it a crank position sensor, replaced it (for $500!) and it worked ... for a few weeks. Moved out to Cincinnati, took it in to a local reputable place (Nordic Motors) and Bill (owner) says "Oh yeah, that was a thing with these Volvos. The engine code will say it's the crank position sensor, but it's not - you actually need a starter." He talked about all the things with EM interference, replaced the starter, and it totally solved the problem. Hasn't -not- started since.
