Is it possible I moved my timing, changing rear camshaft seal?

Post by Pppatric »

Hello

I was replacing rear camshaft exhaust seal in my '06 2.0t V70.

After job was done, I have cleaned outside housing, and accidently also my marks, and when I was tightening cam sensor positioner I snugged m10 screw, and tighten it a bit more. After that I tried to back it up a little, but with no mark on.

My question is, could I (with my timing belt on) move timing when thighten part on the photo a bit to much?

I have two vvt wheels.

I am asking because car stalled last time I was parking, and today I could not start it, but after disconnecting camshaft sensor plug, and moving cables a bit, car started.

Also there is a little bit of rpm wobble at idle, and car vibrates a little. But this happens only sometimes.

I am really terrified that I moved my timing, also I am attaching photos with marks on vvt wheels.

Or maybe camshaft sensor is going bad, or wires?

No any faults on dash board.

Regards

If you didn’t take the belt off, which isn’t required for the cam seal, you have not changed your timing, which is the relationship between the crank and the two cam shafts

Does that make sense?

I think he's worried that he torqued so hard on the back of the cam that he made it jump a tooth.

It does seem unlikely to me, unless the belt was already on the edge of shot.

Thank you Gentleman's, timing job with dual vvt is not in my technical skills range yet.
Garage just did it 5k miles back and it was a bit expensive.

About symptoms I wrote, today I received odb scanner, and problem is with camshaft sensor or wires.

Apriciatte your help.

Cheers.

I think you are correct. You have an intermittent connection problem. Look at both ends - sensor contacts and harness contact. Make sure wires are not compromised.

Also make sure the sensor itself is not damaged. I recall reading about a forum member having problems with an oil sensor and in the end he found the sensor was cracked.
