Does it have a full metal core around the entire perimeter (except for over the front cam bearing tower), or just little inserts around the bolt holes?

The Ford ones are pretty cheap (under $30) and are reusable, pretty much indefinitely, unless you really manage to screw them up. Mine's been off and on several times and guys even pull used ones out of the junkyard and use them.
Wow, that's great! I wish red blocks had a similar option... I've never had one NOT leak. Either paper or cork... they always leak.

I wasted about half the day removing the CBV so that I could change the spring, since it's the IPD kit. No way, no how does that spring unit come apart. Barbed post with a push on clip. It came pre-assembled from them with two other optional weight springs, but it's not much good if you can't change them anyway. Their directions don't even address it. So I had to put everything back as it was.
I'm really good at wasting my own time, so I get a bit bent when others step in to help me do it. Guess I'll be calling IPD tomorrow.
Try to learn life's bad lessons vicariously through others.

Yeah, it's kind of nice. My red blocks were also a pain to deal with in that respect. As long as that engine and its variants were used, you would've thought that Volvo could've solved that. Hell, Ford did...

I spent some time today doing an oil change on the 854 and swapping in a P2R dipstick and tube so I can get an actual oil level reading with the P2R pan.
Also flashed a new tune to the ECU with a couple of needed minor adjustments. (So nice to have that capability).

The CBV retainer should come apart with a little force. They're pretty sturdy, no need to worry about breaking the plastic.

By God the US bumpers are an abomination. The 635 is one of a very very short list of BMWs I'd own, but definitely would need Euro bumpers...!

Those are as bumper ugly as Leicester City. No wonder Europe doesn’t want them

Here’s a cheer for Swansea to get promoted again!

I agree, good find! It looks clean and straight. Also, if you can someday, those bumpers have to go. And some nice OEM wheels or period BBS. Or Alpina wheels, the classics!
