Volvo 850 Non Turbo - What tf is this tube?

Post by cmdz »

1994 - by the way

really annoyed.

My radiator broke and the shop that replaced it was so damn reckless. I got it back the next day, 5 minutes after leaving the shop - my car started to ride in the red. I pulled over let it cool off, and cant open the hood cause they broke the opening pulley. Instant sign they were just rough with it.

Anyway, the next day I brought it back and my CEL came on, they said "woops, thermestat lol" but the CEL was my problem and not related now.

I reset the CEL, and it was fine for a day, the next day came back on and is now giving me error code "EGR system flow too high in system"

so, that's what i'm trying to diagnose in reality.

but first!

WTF Is this crushed looking hose coming from something and is it really supposed to go to nothing and live here?

I took a decently bad video too if needed

I had just stumbled onto reading about SAS in Euro vehicles! thank you!!

Okay, so it doesn't connect to anything, just draws air in? do you know the correct way for it to sit?

The upper end just takes in air from behind the headlight. It sits exactly like that in mine! The bottom end should be attached to the air pump.

'94 doesn't have SAS pump.
It was only available on some late '96 and all '97 with M4.4 management.

Plus....you don't have inlet to upper airbox housing for sas pump hose.

Yes.... Again the mad Serbian strikes again! It is called the air pump system on our cars, used during cold starts. Your hose in correct place and connected correctly though!

I saw on all the photos for later models they have the inlet to the upper airbox.
What is this then if not that?

It's the same thing, hose to the air pump, but on the 94 it doesn't go to the air box it just sits there in the corner. Read the posts by crlande, everything is normal in your car.
