Cruise Control 1995 940 Turbo???

Post by okeetee »

I have a 1995 940 Turbo 4 cylinder that runs perfect!....except the cruise control won't work! I hear a "clicking" sound every time I put on the brakes and it sounds like a "relay" that seems to be located right under the automatic shift stick in the center console. Two questions? How do I get to that relay to replace it?.....and where would you start to trace the cruise control problem? I asked one local shop (not a volvo dealer) about the cruise control problem and he said it generally costs between $300-500 to fix a cruise control problem! I think I can get it fixed alot cheaper....with alittle help from my friends! Thanking you in advance!!!

There is no relay listed for the cruise control.

You can run a diagnostic check if you are one of the lucky people to still have the OBD1 diagnostic unit in the engine compartment. The changeover to OBD11, which requires a scan tool, was between '95 and '96.

Unfortunately, the cruise control does not have a direct link to the diagnostic unit but it is a simple job to connect the cruise control module to the unit by using a jumper wire.

The cruise control module is mounted on the left side of the car behind the driver's kick panel. There is a short wire coming out of the control unit that is not connected to anything. Attach a wire to this and connect the other end of the wire to the lead at the diagnostic unit. You can then test the system and individual components.

If you have the diagnostic box in the engine compartment and wish to go this route, post back and I will put the instructions on for you. As they are fairly long I don't want to put them on if you don't intend to use them.
