It had to be the previous owner. I drive the thing like a grandma. I've seen a lot of evidence of a front side impact that went unreported. Maybe thats when it happened and they just never fixed it.
That’s a possibility. I can’t tell if they’re aftermarket, but some skinny aftermarket links would likely be relatively easy to snap like that with a hard enough impact to the tire.

Had to be an impact to bend and snap like that.

I'm a idiot but a Volvo would do that to you. Thought I had lawnmower syndrome went through the steps to correct it and it still wasn't working. So I was digging around in the help section here and after eliminating all the usual suspects, ended

up with this. The neutral safety switch. This has to be it because this looks like it's oe and I did the shifting back forth and only got a slight cough from the engine when I turned the key.
Used to have a 01 c70 convertible

Green-Red to Solid Green is the Manual transmission bypass. Be careful, with a bypass jumper the engine can be started with the transmission in gear. Applying +12V to the Solid Green wire will engage the starter. Solid Green goes directly to the Starter Solenoid. Green-Red is the starter crank signal.

Ignition switch POSIII ( Crank ) <> Alarm Relay <> Green-Red wire <> Neutral safety switch <> Solid Green wire <> Starter Solenoid .

It’s starter bypass unfortunately does not bypass the PnP switch

The PnP switch is in the Transmission range sensor. Green-Red & Solid Green.

The PnP switch needs to know what gear the transmission is in. What better place then the Transmission range sensor to get that information.

The part in the picture is the Transmission range sensor which contains the PnP switch AKA Neutral safety switch.

The PNP switch would cause a no crank though, not a crank no start. Right?
