Swapped a power steering pump in an attempt to fix a groaning noise. My steering is better but the groan is likely the alternator. Hands are so rawww

I need to see what I can do about my PS pump. The top bolt threads are stripped out, so I can only use 2/3 bolts. I’ll probably get a thread insert.
Oh well, at least it’s easy to swap out on my 2000!

Dip the bolt in molten wax, you want just a thin layer of wax on the bolt. Pack the bolt with JB Weld. Insert bolt, clean off excess and let JB Weld cure. If you did it right, the wax will keep the JB Weld from bonding to the bolt. You will be able to back the bolt out after the JB Weld is cured. The JB Weld will form new threads and bond to the hole.

You might want to try this on some scrap first to get the hang of it.

Wax all surfaces you do not want the JB Weld to bond to.

Oil or silicone grease can work also.

Acetone is great for cleaning off excess but don't flood it and must be done before the JB Weld cures.

Once cured there are only two ways to remove JB Weld.
1. Grind it off.
2. Heat it to 600°F or higher.
At 600°F JB Weld will decompose and weaken. Then you can break it.

I might sell it to the highest bidder. I can't believe how well the engine ran with that huge vacuum leak.

That's an idea, I might have to give that a try.

Good. That will keep the Scots out.

I had the same thoughts when I had the same hose go on the T5...

More tips on working with JB Weld.

1. Use the Original JB Weld not the quick set.

2. As stated above JB Weld will not bond to Wax, Oil, Grease or dirt. Bonding surface needs to be clean, squeaky clean.

3. If you need the JB Weld to spread thinner or need more working time. You can thin out the uncured JB Weld with a couple of drops of Acetone. Drop, mix, drop, mix until you get the consistency you need. Do not over do it. Acetone extends both the set and cure times. That is why I said don't flood it in the other post.

4. Set time and cure time are not the same thing. Set time is the time it will hold its shape and not flow. Cure time is 24 - 48 hours and ready to take on stress.

Replaced my ECC control panel. Fixed dampers that were not moving. First time since I had it, that the ECC lights are not blinking at me.
