Hi all. 2003 S60 2.4T automatic with ~300k mi. Until recently, it was running smoothly, but for years my car consumed oil @ ~ 1qt per 1-1.5k mi. Car starts, will rev and idle smoothly, but over the course of a few weeks, the stable idle rpm dropped from ~ 750 to a steady ~650. And now, after starting, it will rev, but if left to idle with foot off gas it dies right off, with no stumbling. no check engine light. I also now noticed a small bit of a lag in revs when the gas pedal is pressed. Suggestions, pls. Car getting long in the tooth for high $$ mechanics, so hopefully I might do it myself with some guidance. Start with MAF? O2 sensor? ETM? or ? Other thoughts?

Get your arms into the nooks and crannys of the air pipes past the MAF all the way to the Throttlbe body to check for a loose or broken pipe.
You also stated that you are losing oil. it's possible that you're due for another PCV job and there could be a completely clogged tube below the intake manifold (Stupid F**KING Design). And on top of that you should feel for oil where the exhaust camshaft sensor is located. Don't try it when the engine is hot, but it's below the top engine mount and above the intake, so it looks ecactly like the intake cameshaft but hidden away for the engine mount, and if your finger got oil then you got your leak; mechanic should charge you about $140 for labor to replace both rear camshaft seals.
If it's not there check the subframe in the front of the engine and check for oil there, and unfourtunatly if there's a leak then you'll have to give it to a mechanic to do a Timing belt + front and rear camshaft seal replacement; mechanic charged me $530 for labor. Also if you don't want to do the PCV job as well then mechanic should charge your $400 for labor.
Another simple oil leak is the oil fill cap. Just get the replacement for the rubber ring on the cap if it's hard as a rock.

Do a glove test on your PCV system.
Check to see if you have a clogged cat, burning all that oil is not good.
