2010 S80 Weird A/C Problem - Searched Everywhere
Top of the evening to you guys. I haven't been here in a while. My 2010 S80 2.9 has had a bizarre a/c problem that I can't seem to figure out. On days where the outside temperature is between 70-82°, from a cold start and the a/c on recirc, it takes 3-4 minutes before the cold air comes out. Then it usually works great the rest of the day. However, when the temperature is 82-90°+, the a/c feels like it's set right in the middle between cold and warm on the dial. It just doesn't get cold. It's cooler than not having it on however. I've had the system professionally evac'd and filled twice. Each time the a/c is ice-cold for a day or two before the same pattern repeats. Upon each evac the shop said the car had the appropriate amount of R-134 in the system, so it's not leaking. Is there anything I can look for before I start dropping $$$ into it just guessing? I heard something about a valve in the compressor, but can't find anything online about it. Any help would be totally appreciated. My 8yr old used to love my car lol thanks.

Works OK at a higher ΔT not as efficient at a lower ΔT. Not unexpected.
Have you tried cleaning the Condenser to get better heat transfer?
I seen so many perfectly good refrigerators replaced when the only thing needed was a Condenser cleaning.
Same goes for AC units.

I did clean it. Driving for the first 3-4 minutes, it feels like the a/c is off and warm air is blowing in the cabin. Then all of a sudden it gets cool, which is odd, it didn't used to do that. I feel like it's directly related to the cool (once cold) air problem.

Could be a worn ac compressor clutch. There are tricks to fix it so you dont have to take the clutch of and reshim it. Search for ziptie fix or breadbag clips

Replaced an a/c compressor valve (dealer item only) and had to evac and refill. Worked like a charm.

I think he might be referring to the AC Compressor Control Valve. For the 2010 S80 it is Volvo part number 31365093. FCP Euro carries them for $134.49 .
midimykeys; Is this it?

Yes. that's the part. Dealership said I needed new compressor but only needed the valve. Thanks again for the help. Air is still working and needed in October. Just bought an 07' S80 V8 AWD for the brutal winter we're supposed to get with 8 messages in the info center
