Rear wiper already rusted up! 2004 V70
Some intellectual, put the stem of the windshield washer through the pivot of the windshield wiper believing it would never leak into the gearing. I'm just starting to clean up the gears for new lubrication, and I think I will block off the squirter. I can use the gas stations more, for a windshield wash. I pulled fuse #12 at the first sign of a problem, to not to burn the motor as well.

Of course we don't live where you do so it may be different, but I need to check our '04 V70 to see if this is a problem on ours as well.

There was evidence of w/w fluid inside the gear housing and rusting out the gear pivot. I flushed it with penetrating oil, rotated the wiper with 6 volts and my wrist action. Cleaned again, and loaded on the white grease. Its back on the car and working.

Ha ha, funny that I saw this post a couple of weeks ago and yesterday during one of my forays across the state in a rainstorm I noticed that the rear wiper went about 2/3 of the way across and stopped, wouldn't move. When I got to Detroit I turned the switch back on and quickly "helped" it back to the park position where I left it, it moved but was pretty tight. Shut the switch off real quick and will have to get it to the dealer for replacement (CPO warranty, huzzah). Agreed, what rocket scientist designed it with the washer fluid flowing right thru it and potentially leaking into/onto the gearbox/motor? Volvo...most engineering and design pretty impressive, but a few real bonehead moves, ha.sony2000 wrote:Some intellectual, put the stem of the windshield washer through the pivot of the windshield wiper believing it would never leak into the gearing. Still love the car...
Take care,
