Is there a thread anywhere that will give details on a DIY throttle body cleaning? Pictures would be a great plus. I have a 2000 T6 with 99,300 miles that was running great last night when I shut it off, now this morning would hardly start and when it did it surges like crazy.
Last week my son hit some high water and sucked some water into the air intake. I installed new plugs and drained then refilled and flushed the crank case twice, once with a pint of Seafoam then without. Drained and used my normal Syntec 5-30 and a new filter.
I am assuming that the moisture could have gotten into the PCV system and not been affected by the engine flushing and may have gotten the throttle body dirty.
Want to clean my throttle body

I don't know of a write up for an S80 but I would assume it's fairly simple. Disconnect the turbo hose to the throttle body and spray carb cleaner and using a tooth brush, scrub away. I wouldn't take the throttle body off because you will then need a new gasket. That said, what you describe certainly sounds like the ETM. Do you have any codes? If you have to take this into the dealer I would not mention that you sucked up water.

I really planned to remove it. I just want to be sure that there are no "tricks" I need to know.
Looks like I would almost have to remove the intake man. to get to it from the top. NO WAY I'd mention the water to the dealer!!!!
It's weird....It ran great for 2-3 days then this morning it barely started and ran like crap. Went out 2 hours later and it started right up, idled smoothly.but, as soon as I put it in gear....it went to hell again. It's done that 3 times today.
I called the local dealer and they ran the VIN and said the software upgrade had been done in 2006.
I guess I'll have to break down and have it towed to Volvo of Louisville. I hate the idea because they could tell you what ever they want you to hear. The could replace the ETM and then do unneeded BS just to make $$$. I just don't trust a dealership!!! If it is an ETM issue they are obligated to do the repair.

Is there not a good indy Volvo mechanic near you? Even if they can't do the warranty work for an ETM replacement, they would be a buffer between you and a dealer and if it's not the ETM, they should be able to repair what's going on at a fraction of the cost.

"Indy" Volvo?????
Could it ....I know this is one hell of a reach but, when I replaced the plugs I used Bosch Platinums. The dealer asked me specifically if I replaced them with Volvo plugs. I've never had a car that was finicy about plugs brand.

Yes, could be. 850's and all other FWD Volvo's hat Bosch Platinum plugs. That's the first thing I would replace.

So, you're saying the Bosch Platinums could be the problem??
Bosch are the plugs I've had the best results from!!! Champions SUCK!!
I was looking over a Volvospeed thread you dug up on how to "set" ETM codes. Unplug the ETM and drive around. Will it work just at idle?? I can't get it out of the driveway after about 30 seconds.

I didn't say Bosch were bad...just stay away from the Plat's. Use the plain ole' copper Bosch or Volvo plugs. I agree, I didn't like Champion either. Not sure about unplugging the ETM but it could be worth a try...all of that is based on theory and what some guy said over on VolvoSpeed.

Tried cleaning the MAF to no avail. Also tried disconnecting the MAF but it died immediately.

If it died when you unplugged it, I think your MAF is at fault and beyond cleaning. A new MAF is probably in order.
