Hi there guys,
My niece bought herself an S60 to tow a horsetrailer. Well, the car has been running for a few months before she bought the trailer, which has been bought last week.
After she hooked up the trailer, the car wouldn't start anymore. At the moment, it still doesn't, hence this topic.
When the key is turned on, the only thing that does get power is the radio unit. Besides that, nothing. No intstrument panel, no other lights, nothing.
Now I've read something about a few modules (CEM?) that can be faulty, or the ignition switch. Found something in another thread as well. I'm going to pull out the CEM tomorrow, see if it has been damaged.
This might be a broad symptom to describe and there might be a 100 different possibilities, but anyone has experience with this?
EDIT:
Found this thread, trick with the battery disconnected didn't work...

Did she connect trailer wiring like a 4-way plug? If so how is that wiring connected and is it fused? Did you meter out the trailer wiring for a dead short or ground fault? This is a strange one and it may be coincidental with the trailer connection or it may be the cause of the issue. Without the DIM on it’s hard to diagnose because the car isn’t telling you whether it’s an immobilizer issue or not.
When you did the battery trick, did you follow the procedure of having the key in ignition II when reconnecting the battery? I always do that then a lock/unlock 3 times from the fob.

Much of my time during the job is spent hauling things up and down the stairs to the basement or in and out of the storage shed, or running back downstairs when I realize I need something else,or taking a break from standing out in the sun,or using flashlights or work lamps when it gets dark.

I have to get some more intel about that. The car is parked here but I haven't seen the trailer.
I did the trick with the battery, hopefully that reset would do something.
Checked all the fuses, also next to the battery. They were all good. Checked the CEM, looked okay to me as well.
As for the DIM, measured the relay pins on the CEM, no 12V on there when I turn the key in ignition.
Also, on the back of the CEM, there are a few thick red wires, my guess would be power to the module, just shy of 4 volts. But I haven't looked into schematics about that.
I'm going to give the trailer wiring a whirl!

Welp,
Been looking around. The car has a 7 way plug, I've disconnected the trailer wiring to make sure the car behaves besides the trailer wiring.. Haven't checked the trailer though.
I've checked the following things:
- Fuses (also big ones next to battey) (only cigarette was blown);
- Checked 12V distribution on for instance the jump start point, all good;
- Checked 12V on CEM, does get it's supply on the E connector;
- Tried the reset with ignition II and hooking up the battery; When I do that, I hear a click from somewhere in the engine bay when I
try to start it. If I try that a second time, no click.
- Followed a XeMODeX flow chart for DIM/CEM diagnostics; https://xemodex.com/us/dim-cem-low-spee ... flowchart/
- Replaced the starter switch with a switch from our S70, no joy;
According to the flow chart, I end up checking fuse #24, removing the DIM and check if there's 12V on a violet wire. No 12V, so pulled the relay on the CEM to see if the CEM is delivering 12V for that relay. Not the case either, so they say to send it in for repairs.
Since the car won't start and has no DIM, it's quite difficult to see what the problem might be, so I don't have a clue it's an immobilizer issue. . I do have VIDA but no DICE, but I might get one to see if that might help.

Have you tried turning the alarm off and on again to reset the immobilizer?
what is the trailer wiring arrangement? is it factory harness, volvo is picky about using jumpers to cobble up a harness.

Put another CEM in the car. There's some life back in it. Check engine light is on, wipers/heater/fan/lights do work. Going to check Vida and read the car.
