There's a Volvo in nearly every 80s movie. My most recent spot: Beetlejuice. It's the car the couple perish in when they drive off the covered bridge and become ghosts, to provide the rest of the movie with its plot.

We had the kids convinced that “ Mr and Mrs Smith” was a movie about us, for more years than I care to admit.
