2001 volvo XC volvo built in phone

hi all. just bought a XC70 with the volvo phone.The phone does not seem to work.I put my sim card and the phone accepts the pin code. The problem is that when i dail any number it just does nothing. The menu function works fine but the memory function just says "please wait"and then after a while it asks for pin code. Any experts?

This old phone is not serviced by anyone anymore.
It's analog, everything is digital now.
Even the 04 phone is now no good

Jim, isn't there a dealer program where they remove the phone for you for free? Seems I read that somewhere. I do recall that many were really pissed when this service was discontinued. Some were sold on that phone feature in the car...otherwise they would have bought a different model, and after a short while of ownership, the phone became just an expensive looking in-car paperweight.

They removed a couple of 04 R phones and gave them Bluetooth, it's a dealer by dealer deal
No more on higher mileage cars and not unless you bought that car NEW from that dealer
