Siren Module Operation Question

Post by volbul2 »

Anyone? Does anyone know exactly how the siren module works as far as emitting the siren sound? Will it emit the sound when doors are opened from the inside while car is locked? I've been testing the siren I got from Erie Vovo but all my car does is flash the lights. No siren. They sent me 2 units and both are doing the same thing. No siren. Is there a sequence of operation that has to happen for the siren to go off?

I spoke with the dealership (Betten Imports) but I don't think they know how it works. The service department was sure that pressing the panic button on the FOB will activate it. I argued with them that all that does is sound the horn, not the siren.

I disabled the siren in my ‘03 back in 2011, but I remember the siren would sound if I locked with the fob and manually unlocked with the key (from outside the car), then opened the door.

Looks like the actual siren part of your alarm module is not working. I cut mine open to replace the batteries, and I disabled my siren by cutting the wires that run to it, as no one is going to steal a 2004 Volvo v70, and I don't wanna be "that guy". Any setting off of the alarm condition ("flashing lights") should be accompanied by the siren, so if you really think it important, then you were sold a defective part.
1982 240DL: Drove it 32 years and 1.5 million miles (sold, even still had mint leather!)
2001 v70 2.4T: The most expensive $1500 car I ever bought ("Volvo Turbo" - what an oxymoron!) (sold)
2004 v70: Far less fatally-flawed v70 - It served well (sold)
2010 v50: Smaller, slightly sportier wagon. Its got a spoiler, so I upgraded with sway bars!

Also make sure the dash red LED is blinking when the car is locked, otherwise there is a microswitch malfunctioning (usually at the hood)
