Key Fob Stuck!!

Post by DetroitXC70 »

This evening my mother tried to move my XC70 in her driveway and inserted the silver key ring part into the ignition slot. IT WILL NOT COME OUT.
Any suggestions other than making a whiskey and screaming into a pillow? I’ve checked those off the list already.

The photo should help someone reply to you on this problem. I do not have any cars this new and am not familiar with push start technology. In any case, this post should move your request back to the top of question list.

Owner's manual wrote: Keylock
When you switch off the ignition, the gear
selector must be in the P (Park) position before
the remote key can be removed from the ignition
slot.
For some reason or another it thinks the transmission is not in Park.
Gear selector position, Gear selector switch or cable ... ect.

Bumping or rowing the shifter might get it unstuck.

It could it know the transmission is in Park but something is going on the the key lock in the key slot.
Pushing on the key rather then pulling on it. Might get the key lock to release.

Key is probably ”just” wedged in there, as the back side of the key is bigger. Any wiggle action possible? Maybe a very small amount of WD40 can help lubricate it loose.

If all else fails pull and wiggle really hard, will probably only scratch/damage the plastic suround.
