Anti skid service and no brake pressure

Post by nyurch »

04 xc90 2.5t

No access to Vida :(

Anti skid service message and the brakes will goto the floor. No loss of brake fluid and changed the vacuum pump. It seems like a vacuum leak but everything looks good. The message and brakes are hand in hand, only get the message when the brakes goto floor.

Any ideas? Master cylinder and brake booster? I hate to keep throwing money at it but it's a good reliable car with new axles and rear drive shaft. Thanks in advance.

If you tread on the brake pedal quickly and it operates the brakes, but then slowly travels to the floor; it's the master cylinder.

Then not the master cylinder, they go right to the floor where they barely work. But, I found, the brakes tend to build up pressure if you pump them, that's why I was leaning toward the vacuum pump.

I can't find any vacuum leaks but I did just order an icarsoft reader for the car in hopes I find out some kind of answer for the anti-skid light and hope it leads me to an answer for the brakes.

If your vacuum pump is not working (like mine) your brakes would be rock hard. My vacuum pump has not worked for years (I have another, just never time to put it in) and first start up in the morning before the engine vacuum has kicked in they are super hard but once vacuum builds up they work like they should.

I had a Landcruiser once that had an internal issue on rear caliper that caused significant pedal travel. Its was leaking but not significant enough to be visible. I discovered after doing a brake bleed.
