Hello everyone!
I have a 2007 xc90 v8 w/ appx 140,000 miles.
Recently I had an issue w/ my steering wheel lock and while my mechanic was diagnosing the problem the car battery was disconnected.
Fast forward a few weeks and the car is due for a NY state inspection. They hook up the car and it says the car is "NOT READY" for the test. I was told to drive it a few hundred miles to go through some drive cycles.
So my question is, can I tell if my car is ready for an inspection by using my VIDA/DICE system? I'd like to be able to know before I bring it in for an inspection again.
Thank you in advance
Matthew
How can I tell if my car is ready for emissions inspection

Thanks for revealing this bit of trivia!
I also "failed state inspection", due to "readiness", but the fellow who did the inspection for the state had a heavy accent and a limited command of English, so we had quite a time with the term "ready". I knew I had no emissions codes, but my clearing of an unrelated code had the unintended consequence of also clearing the emissions codes - the little button under "Delivery" in VIDA says "Clear All", and it apparently means exactly what it says!
This is yet another advantage of the 1952 MG TD over Volvo's many fine products - no inspection is required, the tiny sewing-machine sized engine is so simple, there is nothing beyond "air-fuel-spark" to worry about, the only "computer" is the Halda Speedpilot used for time-speed-distance rallying, and it is nothing but mechanical gears. Best of all, no inspection is required, as it is an antique.

No worries about electrical systems because nothing built by the Prince of Darkness works anyway.
It’s definitely and positively , a down-to-earth, car.

Don't you mean positive-to-earth ? (Had a few MG's, got it first time.)
And just remember, if Lucas made arms, wars wouldn't start.

To the recent poster
There are quite a few threads in OBD readiness and getting monitors to go ready in the P80 Forum, use 'show titles only' to keep results scannable.
Every OBD car has readiness cycles and when you are doing work on it close to inspection time, you have to build in the time to allow readiness to be set - usually an hour of driving or so.
Your state MAY follow EPA guidance and allow two monitors to be 'NOT READY" - check your state inspection program to confirm.

Au contraire, my Doubting Thomas!
Below I offer my lovely wife off to do the marketing in the '52 TD, and my pride and joy - my 110 mph 1972 MG Midget, with upgraded everything, but mostly with the MGB suspension, so it actually handles as fast as it can go.
The TD stays in the garage in winter, but the Midget has been driven in snow on occasion. The TD has driven up Mt Washington and down again without blowing an engine or burning out brake pads during several of the "Lap of New England" rallies.
DeVolvo certainly gets use, but all my cars are ready for race day EVERY day.
