Re:my climate control unit is not working after a jump start

Post by Rudy »

Hi,

I am the original owner of a 2001 XC and I can't even list all the problems i had with it in the past. It cost me over $5000 and i have just 60.000 miles on it.
few days ago my batery was dead and I jump start the car but after that my sunroof, interior lights , climate control unit and the little light by the gear shifter was out. I called my mechanic and was able to "key reset" the sunroof and lights but not the climate unit and gear shifter light.
The Volvo dealer recomends new CCM unit for $1300 (parts and labor) and ..."we take it from there". I hope there is a "over load protection" somwhere...........please let me know if you have any suggestion.
Thanks/Rudy :( :( :(

I don't think it is broken. Disconnecting the battery for a few minutes, is in theory, a REBOOT.

Have tried disconecting again, tried holding the Poss. and neg leads together, tried reconnecting battery with key in II position (as per Volvo XC.com site advice) nothing, nothing, nothing.
Neither Volvo USA, nor any of the Volvo dealers in my area claim to be aware of this problem. Very frustrating.
My mechanic claims I must have "arked" the battery and sent a surge through to the ECC and fried it.
HHHEEELLLPPP... $760+labour for a new unit!

Often the temp sensor for the cabin malfunctions. On the 850's it was just to the left of the driver's head. Also, no fan, then no ECC. Just trying to find other reasons than the ECC itself.

One good thing about Volvo electrics is that they lend themselves to be repairable, more than others. For example it's casing should open up to expose the circuit board. The ECC is worth $750 new, so it should be worth it to an electronics technician to see what is stopping the flow of current through it and also make sure there is juice getting to it. Could be only a $1.00 part.
