Since I’m running 4 p80s I’m keeping more new parts in my stock so I can flip a car repair the same day it comes up.

It doesn't seem like a very environmentally friendly practice to ship something that can be recycled locally. A little bit more unnecessary carbon, but who's counting.

They take it back every time and I love that it only costs me shipping for those oil changes. I've also utilized the warranty return on several parts. I'm never going back to buying local if I can can get lifetime warranty on blue box parts. Those of you that live in the north east count yourself lucky. I pay shipping from Texas.
What carrier do you use for return shipping? I've used the 12x12x12 flat rate box at UPS but that's still not ideal.
I only change my oil annually. I wait until I have enough parts to make a 12x12x12 box more efficient for shipping. Some orders are better than others but I'm just glad to have the service. Sometimes I wait too long and have to get store credit instead of a refund but I'll find a way to spend it. I also take advantage of the $50 free shipping. I try to think ahead and order parts I'm already planning to change. It also came in real handy for my transmission fluid change out. Pumped 12 liters through both volvos and they needed it badly. I have not had to chabge brake pads on my 850 in over 10 years. They still have more than 50% life on them.
That is what I've mainly used it for, transmission fluid changes. Expensive, 12+ liters. Plus a few odds and ends, including tailgate struts.

Sounds like a few more p80s in the fleet would only make things more efficient.

Derailing the thread: How does everyone here dispose of used oil and other automotive fluids? This is part of the cost, this part of the "deal" we're talking about.

I wrestled with this problem for a long time. The best way for me to dispose of oil (and other automotive fluids) is at the town household hazardous waste pickup day. That only happens once a year, so I have to store materials until then and hope I can attend the event. I have at least 10 bottles waiting to go in October.

Another way to dispose of certain automotive fluids is to bring them to an AutoZone or other brick and mortar retail parts store. Can I really bring them fluids I didn't buy there? I considered buying from them to justify bringing in the used stuff, but their selection and prices were the worst of everything I considered. And do they really dispose of the stuff properly? I doubt they pay the cost to properly dispose of anyone's fluids, bought there or not.

Proper disposal is important to me. I trust FCP to do the right thing with the fluids. Thus, shipping to them is the best solution for me.

Yes, a local auto parts with that capacity is a good choice. They sell it to industrial users in bulk - they're happy to take yours.

Check if there's a recycle drop off place around - might be an industrial area.

Saving it a whole year for the hazardous waste day is a bit of a pain. And when you go, they seem to have a tone of "No, we want "hazardous" stuff, not oil or paint." I suppose you could time your oil change for right before that date. Our garbage collection company will take up to two gallons with your regular garbage pickup. Has to be in a translucent milk jug type of gallon container, tight lid. I assume they're selling it to the same industrial purchasers.

I've always taken my oil buckets to AutoZone, no issues, even if I don't buy anything there. AZ and most big auto parts stores are well known to collect and dispose of oil. I don't have a mountain of evidence in front of me, but I'd be willing to bet that as a national brand, they likely aren't getting away with just dumping the oil down the drain or something. The containers seem to get picked up every so often by a 3rd party that recycles it. Probably the same company that picks it up at most local oil/hazardous waste recycling centers.

Around here, any of the auto parts stores will take it. No problem. The last thing they want is people just dumping it in the dirt the way they used to. So they make it as easy as possible. We also have dump tanks at the local landfills that you can dump up to 5 gal at a time in. I think that the only reason there is a limit at all is to dissuade small repair shops from filling up the tanks instead of using a service. So basically there are 3 places I can bring my used oil to that are within 10 - 15 min. away, 2 of which are 7 days a week.
But I have at times ended up with 15 gal collection on my hands.
I've read that the oil itself is still fine; it's the additives that are used up. So maybe at some point filtering and adding new " goodies " to it ourselves will keep it useful a bit longer. We could even call it " abscating your oil " :) .

Use the pump and then into water container. The big mouth Costco size laundry containers have been pretty good compared to the milk jugs but the water container is just so, so much cleaner and easier than the best gallon jugs. It's been about two years with this set up so can't remember the last time removing the plugs.

Advance auto has no issues taking the oil in that quantity but I think it maybe 5 gallons max per trip.
