Standard radiators last a long time. OE had a brass re-inforcement tube on the top hose inside of it as it gets a fair amount of stress from the engine moving. Mine failed because that brass tube came loose and moved out into the upper hose removing the strength of the plastic until it sheared.

Always check your torque mounts and lower RH engine mount under the crank pulley when changing a radiator as chances are they were the cause of the failure in the first place.

Nissens radiator has a strengthened top hose connector as well.

Most owners cars will not out last the 2nd radiator, maybe the 3rd.

Since i bought this 850, i didn't find time (and also money sometimes) to replace each part that need to. It's obvious that all parts and hoses need a close control and a replacement after 25 years, especially when they are stamped "Volvo "on it.

This leak appears to me as a hose issue. I will bleed the radiator tomorrow, enough to be able to "resize" a little part to get a nice lip to fit the radiator opening.

Thanks for your knowledges Neil.

Next new new (final),

So Buddies, at first, i used the car tonight for a small trip. The gauge is always a bit higher than the middle. May be the circuit must be dirty. Does anyone ever used stuff like LiquiMoly for coolant circuit, does it worst it ? I have to test the fan, and its relay, not sure everything is allright over there

The coolant level after have parked the car next to the trip didn't drop (I replaced the pipes better than it was and tightened the clamps a little bit, without forcing anything. This Gran'Ma is delicate...) :

The radiator was dry. I don't worry anymore for the trip to home (but i will have actually a closer look anyway) :

The owner is a young guy who wanted to have this car, and not another one. I've spoken of MVS of course, and what fabulous wealth of information the website is. For sure the guy was interested. We were on his mobile on MVS main page. He told me it was exactly what he was looking for. Cool guy...

Episode II : The leak strikes again...

So, tonight, while Cat-woman was bringing home my 2 kids, at the moment they arrived to park 850, the light temperature low level started to switch on. After having parked the car, Cat-woman opened the hood and looked to the cool tank, and the level was near the bottom of the reservoir... Damned !

Once for all, i must replace some hoses. And here's my question : In comparison, it costs me less to go through IPD USA and have the parts shipped from them, than to buy them here. Here, the parts sold by Volvo are at Volvo price, the OEM parts sold by individuals or other structures are cheaper, but with shipping costs (for example, a hose 12 euros and 15 euros shipping costs...).

We are walking on our heads here.

So here it is: is there someone on MVS :
- who could order the parts for me via the MVS link, and send them to me?
- to know a supplier of these tubes in Europe?

I want to upgrade my hoses to silicon, but apparently only IPD offers them in black. I'm not interested in the blue ones at all. The funniest thing is that the silicon hoses at IPD are cheaper than here.

I think about Neil's explanation about the radiator leak and the seal issue. I would start by replacing the hoses at first to see if it solves the problem. All hoses are OEM ones (1995)...

Any advice is welcome.

Manov.

BTW : thanks, of course !

...as always.

Have you tried Skandix in Germany or Euro Car Parts in the UK. Their prices are usually not bad. The are places in Sweden too, like Meckenom?

There is also another on-line place in the UK but the name escapes me for now. Oh, here it is:

There are other UK specialists but not sure what their prices are like. Brookhouse is one.

Parts ordered to Skandix. For beginning of next week.

Thanks, Neil for the good "hose" !

Manov.

Edit :
Trouble found: thermostatic probe in the pipe that was not tightened properly. Anyway, the hoses were originals onces, to replace them is necessary.
