Power seat issue, 95 850

I can hear the motor running for the seat back to recline but it will only go forward. The base will not move rearward either. I will be the only one driving this car. Is there any way to manually move the seat into the position I need ?

The plastic jacket on the drive cables expands over time and disengages the drive cable from the motor or transmission.

One fix is to pull the metal cap off the end. Shorten the plastic jacket ~1/4" at a time. Then reinstall the metal cap.

You could try disconnecting the drive cable from the motor and moving the seat with a cordless drill. It might engage if you can push the center of the cable into the transmission. You might be able to manually operate the transmission with a small hex, octagon or square driver ... I Think the center cable is a square.

Rick is right. The cable is like an old style speedometer cable and is a square section.

There have been a few how to's on this over the years including one recently.

Hardest part is getting the seat out and getting the seat back cover pulled up high enough to fix the cable as Rick says.

You will need to use zip-tie or the correct hog-rings and pliers to refit the back cover.

Fix it from the motor end, which is more accessible.
