Leap from 2006 XC70 to XC60 - Advice needed

Post by fontoledo »

Hi all.

I'm in the market to replace my good ol' 2006 XC70 with a newer car that I can get more peace of mind with (less time available, and less money available for repairs). I'd like to stick to Volvos, but here are some non-negotiables:
  • My budget is limited (~18k Max)
  • I don't want to lose too much of the current Cargo area on my XC70
  • I want to stay in AWD mode
  • I'm planning on putting 30k miles max on the car, before selling it.
I want to avoid having to spend lots of money for the inspection that comes close to the ~100k miles mark (timing belt, etc)[/list]

Here's some Nice to haves
  • Moonroof
  • Keyless Entry
After some research, it seems an XC60 is the best option to conciliate those needs and wish lists. However, there's a lot out there, so I need some advice:
  • What's a reasonable mileage to consider? My guts tell me anything above 80k will force me to spend quite some money in maintenance within my ownership timeframe; I'd love to calibrate on this.
  • Are there any years I should avoid (recalls, known issues, etc)
  • Are there any years/trims you'd recommend given the budget?
  • Anyone here has been able to compare the cargo area of a 01-07 XC70 with the XC60? Is it big difference?
Thanks all!

Before you spend more time thinking about this and soliciting advice, go look at the cargo area of an XC60 and decide if it's good enough for you. This is your second bullet point after max cost, so I take it it's important.

Small/mid SUVs' cargo areas are small. There's no nice way to say it.
Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.

Also -> Amazon link

Thanks Matt. I'm actually doing that this upcoming Friday, but wanted to get ahead of the decision curve in case it does look like enough for me.

I spent $9,500 on my 2011 XC60 T6 with about 100K miles. In about 30K miles the only non maintenance issue has been a battery and a CV boot. Other than that I had the belt replaced and did the ordinary oil and filters myself. Great car, 300 HP, I would buy another one.

Thanks!

I test drove one this weekend, and I think we can definitely work with this cargo area! I’m about to pull the trigger on this one: https://www.carvana.com/vehicle/1955090 but was hoping you guys could help me out with the questions on my initial post.

Thanks!
