Noise from throttle body

Post by burned out »

I have a 2001 S60 that is trying to drive me insane. Let me tell you what has been done and then the result. I changed the oil and the spark plugs the other day, nothing big right? Well now when the car warms up it has a high-pitched noise coming from around the throttle body area. I have taken the entire fuel injection system off checked every hose and gasket to no avail. Now I know it is something to do with vacuum but I can

I agree with TSquared; you have a vacuum leak somewhere.

When you changed the spark plugs, did you move any of the air intake ducts? I have seen those ribbed ducts crack on the "insides" of the ribs. The only way to see the cracks is to remove the duct and hold it up to a strong light while looking into it. When this happened on my '85 245, there was a strange whistling type noise that I couldn't track down until I checked the air ducts. Also, if you're getting "false air" downstream of the air mass sensor, you'll have lean mixture and driveabililty problems.

Also, there may be some hoses that connect to the air ducts. Check underneath the duct just past the air mass sensor. My '97 850 has a hose connection there.
